Stone Balance Installations by Michael Grab

Amazing stone balance art using only gravity to hold them together.
Through witnessing what this art has done for me personally over years of practice, my vision grows more and more to encourage others to seek their own “still-point” or inner silence. No-one but you is required to experience your divine nature. This art allows one to freely be themselves, manifesting their own particular vibrations into a 3D world. Stone balance teaches the practitioner lessons through silence. The inner silence that one cultivates through balancing (or other meditative practice) is a foundation to realizing that each of us are as much one another as we are our entire universe. One gigantic symphony and to apply a framework of “balance” to the earth-organism will be infinitely beneficial for the well-being of our children, as well as the diversity of life we co-exist with.
You can see more of Michael’s work on his website Gravity Glue.

There are more than three dozen species in the family Paradisaeidae, more commonly known as the birds of paradise. Most are distinguished by striking colors and bright plumage of yellow, blue, scarlet, and green. These colors distinguish them as some of the world’s most dramatic and attractive birds. Males often sport vibrant feathered ruffs or amazingly elongated feathers, which are known as wires or streamers. Some species have enormous head plumes or other distinctive ornaments, such as breast shields or head fans.

Males put their bright colors and unusual ornaments to good use when they display for females. Their elaborate dances, poses, and other rituals accentuate their appearance and put on a phenomenal show for both female birds and any humans lucky enough to be in the vicinity. Such displays can last for hours, and in many species they consume a significant part of the male’s time.

CLOUD is a large-scale interactive sculpture created from 6,000 light bulbs, new and burnt-out. Constructed by Calgary-based artists Caitlind r.c. Brown and Wayne Garrett, CLOUD was on public display for one-night-only during Calgary’s first Nuit Blanche Festival. As part of the process of creating the sculpture, the artists collected burnt out incandescent light bulbs from local households, businesses, museums, and eco stations. The idea was to create an informal collaboration between the community and the artists, reduce costs, and experiment with the potential of items post-use.

Numen / For Use - Tape Vienna / Odeon (2010)

Artist’s statement:

“The tape concept developed further towards a more sculptural architectonic form. It was practically “found” through the act of chaotic wrapping, where a one-dimensional line (“tape”), slowly turned into two-dimensional plane, which then finally curved into volume. The installation was envisaged as a site specific, parasitical structure invading an arbitrary location. The straight lines of main trajectories are stretched across a given area and these tendons are then wrapped diagonally with layers of elastic tape, giving shape to a complex organic form through a process similar to the emergence of such structures in nature. With the further layering of the tape, the figure becomes more and more corporeal as it picks up on the slow increase of the curvature. The  interior of the structure is supple, elastic, and pliable while the form itself is statically perfect, as it ideally follows the trajectories of forces, being literally defined by them. In the moment when the audience enters the installation, what started off as a sculpture seamlessly morphs into architecture.”

A bonsai tree can be any tree that is grown in miniature to resemble an aged tree. The more mature a bonsai tree, the more value it has. Bonsai is Japanese for ‘tree in a pot’. However, simply placing a tree in a tiny pot does not make it bonsai. The grower must possess vision and skill to train the tree’s foliage and guide its shape. This is done through pruning the roots to keep the tree small, wiring the branches, and using other techniques to make the bonsai tree take on the look of a mature tree in nature.
